After a great week of preparation in Sun Peaks the team headed down to Loveland, Colorado. We had a few days to acclimatize, gather our bearings and rest up before we started in the first races of our season.
Fresh out of training we hopped straight in to the first North American Cup of the year. We didn’t set any specific goals for this race as the field was stacked and the whole team would be starting towards the back of the pack. The main goal for everyone was to get a couple starts under our belts and focus on the process of skiing. The GS races were mini world cups, with members of the Italian, Austrian, American and Canadian national teams in attendance. The Slalom races hosted similar fields.
Nerves were high but at the end of the weekend we all accomplished something. I myself never managed to lay down two clean runs let alone qualify for a second one, I did however dial in my approach a little more each day and took better control of my nerves. Overall I consider this past race series a success, I learned a lot and know that I am skiing well. We did what we came down here to do and now we have another short training block before we gear up for the next string of races. I am confident in my skiing, confident in the team and confident going into the rest of the season.
Look forward to some more updates in the coming weeks and some photos in the next few days!
